Enjoy “The King of Cool” Steve McQueen at his best as Garth Park transforms into the wild west for an open air screening of The Magnificent Seven.
It’s showing tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm, bringing our Film Fridays programme to a dramatic close.
The programme is funded by Cherwell District Council through Bicester’s Garden Town status, helping people to make the most of social, outdoor spaces while the summer sun still shines.
The screenings are delivered in partnership with @millartscentre – whose staff are running the screening and the box office, and supported by Bicester Town Council which has provided access to Garth Park.
People are recommended to book in advance, which will entitle them to free parking at the Claremont and Cattlemarket car parks from 5pm. It’s also a good idea to bring picnic blankets and cushions to make yourselves comfortable.
Tickets are £5 per person or £20 per family and the movie starts at 7.30pm. Children up to three years of age will be able to enter free of charge. You can book in advance through the Mill Arts Centre’s box office, although tickets will also be available on the door.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic new volunteer to help with our successful and established Senior Rock School programme for ages 12+ which runs from 5.30-7.00pm on Friday evenings. The new term will begin on Friday 22nd September and will run for 10 weeks, with a final performance to friends and family at the end of November. The sessions take place at The Studio Bicester, Unit 2 Crown Walk, Bicester, OX26 6HY.
Work alongside experienced musician Rob Gilmour to deliver these sessions which aim to support our young people in expanding their skills, building confidence and developing their identities as young musicians through composing and performing their own pieces. This term we will also be collaborating with award-winning music charity Readipop on their established Urban Orchestra Project - an inspiring and alternative approach to creating new music.
This Role would require you to help set up the instruments and the practice room before the session begins and pack up the equipment after it ends. You would also be required to support the individuals in composing and learning their songs and performing them together as bands.
No musical qualifications are required but a knowledge of basic musical principles and the ability to play an instrument, as well as personal experience of performing in a band, would be beneficial. Previous experience of working with young people and children is not essential.
We are looking for someone enthusiastic and willing to take a hands on approach to sharing their music knowledge and skills - someone who is patient and encouraging, flexible, dynamic and sensitive to the needs of the group and the individuals within it. This is voluntary role.

Oxford Lieder is looking for enthusiastic Festival Assistants to play a significant role in the day-to-day running of the Oxford Lieder Festival.

The sixteenth Oxford Lieder Festival - The Last of the Romantics: Mahler and fin-de-si├Ęcle Vienna - explores the cultural melting pot that was Vienna at the very height of Romanticism. Starting with Mahler’s 45 complete songs with piano we also explore the songs and chamber works of his contemporaries and predecessors: Schubert, Beethoven, Brahms, Wolf, Zemlinsky, Korngold, and Strauss. Nestled amongst more than fifty performances are also study days, readings, screenings, and workshops. Our starry line-up of artists includes Ian Bostridge, Sarah Connolly, Angelika Kirchschlager, Mark Padmore, Roderick Williams, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and many more.

The Festival Assistant positions are paid, and are ideally suited to someone looking to gain experience in arts administration and events management. The Festival Assistants (FAs) will need to be available throughout October, and will need to be resident in or near Oxford during that time. Reporting to the Director of Administration, our FAs will work as a team on a range of administrative and front-of-house duties, and additionally will be responsible individually for a specific aspect of the Festival. We currently have two vacancies:
• Concert Management Festival Assistant
This FA will be responsible for opening and setting up venues and green rooms, ensuring clear venue signage, ensuring all public and staff areas are kept clean and tidy, welcoming and assisting artists, arranging audience seating, assisting front-of-house for all recitals, and helping other FAs in their work as directed and as time allows.

• Box Office Festival Assistant
This FA will be expected to work from their home during the day. They will be responsible for answering all box office telephone and email enquiries between 10am-6pm every day, undertaking box office administrative tasks including offering returns to our waiting lists, sending targeted box office marketing emails, and reconciling takings with ticket figures. They must communicate regularly and clearly with our Box Office Administrator. They will also undertake additional administrative tasks in support of the rest of the team and help out at the front-of-house box office for all evening recitals.

If you’ve ever thought I’d really like to do that but aren’t sure you could. Or if you’d like to serve your local community and have been thinking of finding out more about the role, but not sure if it’s for you. Then this taster day is your chance to find out.

You’ll get to meet female firefighters who will talk to you about what life as a firefighter is like for them, and answer any questions you have at an informal questions and answers session.
If you’re not sure you’re strong or fit enough you can try out our physical assessments such as ladder climbing, hose running and putting on breathing apparatus. And if you would like any advice or guidance on how you can build up your strength and fitness our firefighters will be on hand to help.
We’ll also be talking you through how the recruitment process works, how long it takes and what it’s like being a firefighter for us whether it’s whole-time or on-call.
